Latin America, 1840's-1950's, extensive mint and used specialist's collection, containing many thousands of stamps, hinged or in mounts on blank pages, filling a large box. Countries include Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico (including Porte de Mar), Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Salvador and Uruguay. The collection was formed by a serious philatelist and collected over many years, and bears his detailed annotations as to issues, watermarks and numerous varieties, plus his detailed notes on forgeries (an important and very useful part of the collection). No great rarities (the best item is probably the Peru #2, unused but a bit faulty, catalog value $1900), but an excellent collection for the serious collector wanting to get into this area, with a great many of the essential and interesting issues of the classic and early modern periods included. Condition is typical of the period, ranging from V.G.-Fine on 19th century issues to F.-V.F. for the 20th century. A small sampling has been imaged. Shipping weight 27 lbs / 12.25 kilos.
Estimate $1,000 - 1,500
