Romania, 1859-1983, the outstanding collection in 21 volumes, formed by the late George McNamara. One of the finest and most extensive collections of this area ever formed, and amply annotated and rich in unlisted items. This could easily form the basis for a wonderful exhibition collection.
Volume 1 does not exist. George may have planned this volume but it is not with the lot.
Volume 2 contains stamps and postal stationery from the 1872 to 1889 period, the issues of Prince (later King) Carol I, including numerous essays, perf and shade varieties, blocks and strips. Stamps alone in this volume catalog well over $4500. Fully imaged on the web as PDF #1.
Volume 3 contains issues of 1890-1900, with extensive proofs, perf varieties, cancels, covers and postal stationery. Catalog value for stamps alone is well over $500. Fully imaged on the web as PDF #2.
Volume 4 contains issues of 1893-1900, including an impressive showing of essays and proofs, plus blocks, cancels, perf and shade varieties. Catalog value estimated at approximately $1000. Fully imaged on the web as PDF #3.
Volume 5 contains issues of 1903-1909, with a wide range of perf and shade varieties, cancels and covers. Basic stamps catalog over $1000. Fully imaged on the web as PDF #4.
Volume 6 contains issues of 1909-1919, including imperfs and postal stationery. Catalog value for listed stamps estimated at well over $500. Fully imaged on the web as PDF #5.
Volume 7 contains issues of 1920-1922, with the main value being in the many imperfs, proofs and essays. Fully imaged on the web as PDF #6.
Volume 8 contains issues of 1926-1932, including extensive imperfs, also postal stationery. Fully imaged on the web as PDF #7.
Volumes 9 through 15 contain issues of 1931-1983. Not imaged.
Volumes 16 through 20 contain back-of-the-book issues, including semi-postals, airmail and postage dues, with numerous covers, also imperfs. Catalog value is approximately $2500. Extensively imaged on the web as PDF #8.
Volume 21 contains Romanian Occupation of Hungary after WW1, also French Occupation (Arad Issue). Many but not all of these issues have been signed. Catalog value is approximately $1500. Extensively imaged on the web as PDF #8.
Total catalog value for listed stamps alone comes to over $13,000. There is exceptional additional value in the essays, proofs, covers and postal stationery.
