Montenegro, 1874-1943, the magnificent collection in 4 volumes, formed by the late George McNamara. One of the finest collections of this area ever formed, meticulously collected by an experienced professional philatelist over many years.
Volume 1 contains stamps and postal stationery from the 1874 to 1894 period, including numerous printing and perforation varieties, imperfs and proofs. The stamps are a mixture of mint and used, with many interesting cancels. Each issue is well represented in considerable depth. The postal stationery is mainly mint. Scott listed stamps alone catalog approximately $5500.
Volume 2 contains stamps and postal stationery from the 1896 to 1913 period, including extensive showing of the Constitution overprint types. Scott listed stamps alone come to nearly $1000 catalog value.
Volume 3 contains postage dues, revenues and other back-of-the-book issues from 1894 onward, also issues of the Montenegro government in exile and Austrian WWI Occupation issues. Finally there are Italian and German WWII Occupation issues, which constitute the bulk of the value of this volume. Italian Occupation issues are nearly complete and mostly NH (1st issue is hinged), Sassone catalog value approximately €24,000. German Occupation issues are also extensive but are all hinged, Sassone catalog value approximately €1200. Occupation issues are nearly all signed by various experts.
Volume 4 contains some additional 1905 Constitution issues, of minimal value.
Fully imaged on the web. The first PDF contains volume 1, the second PDF contains volume 2, the third PDF contains volume 3, and the 4th PDF contains volume 4.
