Lote 89

Israel, 1967 and after, a fascinating specialized collection of the postal history of the 6-Day War, containing approximately 200 covers, postal cards, picture post cards and documents relating to the war. Most are unaddressed, franked with various Israeli stamps of the period, and bear illustrations, cachets and postmarks of events related to the war and after, including Israeli occupation of Egyptian, Jordanian and Syrian territories, and establishment of Israeli post offices in the occupied areas. There are also a few covers from the prior 1956 Sinai campaign, as well as some rare stamps for mail from ships stranded in the Bitter Lakes, when Egypt closed the Suez Canal. Condition is uniformly clean and F.-V.F. or Very Fine. This is one man's personal collection, assembled over many years, and extensively annotated. With a little more work it would make a nice exhibition collection.
Estimate $500 - 750

The 6-Day War was fought from 5 to 10 June 1967 between Israel and a coalition of Arab states. The war was triggered by Egypt's closing of the Straits of Tiran to Israeli shipping, and led to the occupation by Israel of the Sinai Peninsula, the West Bank of Jordan and the Golan Heights of Syria
