"Hard Paper" Special Printing (Scott 176), magnificent centering and perfs that are remarkably choice for this issue, without gum as issued, Very Fine or better, with 1983 P.F. certificate. Scott $12,000. Estimate $7,500 - 10,000 The Scott catalog notes "although perforated, these stamps were usually cut apart with scissors. As a result, the perforations are often much mutilated and the design is frequently damaged." The example here is a true gem, a rare issue and in extremely rare quality. Only 179 were sold of both the hard paper and soft paper special printings of the 30¢, and the Siegel census indicates only 52 of the hard paper 30¢ are available to collectors. |
