Lote 201 Seward, William H., (1801-1872), an American politician who served as U.S. Secretary of State under Presidents Lincoln and Johnson from 1861 to 1869, and earlier served as governor of New York and as a United States senator. Free franked letter dated Dec. 6 1858 (Washington DC c.d.s. cancel) with his notations at the side requesting what appears to be a reply by Dec. 9, 1858; so this letter is actually signed twice by him during his time as a U.S. Senator.
