Lote 127 1873, 15¢ Webster, yellow orange, C.B.N.C. printing + 1875, 2¢ Jackson, vermilion, C.B.N.C. printing (Scott 163, 178), used on an 1877 mourning cover from Portland Maine via New York to Callao, Peru, the stamps tied by corks, the cover marked via Ship "Franconia". Reverse bears a horizontal pair of Peru 5c vermilion Postage Due (odd, since the franking fully paid the 17¢ rate), matching "Callao 3 OCT 77" double-circle postmark. An attractive and very scarce usage with postage due stamps, Very Fine. Estimate $300 - 400. |
