1850, folded letter concerning a prison, interesting blue folded letter to Canaan, N.H. between two brothers…G. Patch writes as an employee of the East Cambridge Prison in Massachusetts on July 4, 1850…"small pox is thick in the city, professor Douglas will be hung, the prisoners were given lemonade and roast stuffed pig and then allow to play ball in the prison yard" as celebration for independence day, Fine to Very Fine, remarkable contents.

It was crusader Dorthea Dix who petitioned states to move funding from prisons such as these and assist the mentally ill in better facilities. Often times criminals and mentally ill were crammed in inhumane facilities during the mid to late 1800's.
