1851, 3¢ orange brown, type II (Scott 10A), a lovely example tied to an 1851 folded letter by a complete rounded black grid paired with a red New Orleans c.d.s.; the ink shows through the exterior page of the folded letter meaning that the exterior page was used to write the letter, Very Fine to Extremely Fine, a rare 3¢ circular rate for 1,000-1,500 miles. 1861, 3¢ rose (Scott 65), used in 1866 with a socked-on-the-nose PAID cancel plus two supplemental postal markings that tell a story; one is "ADVERTISED" in an oblong frame and the other is "UNCLAIMED" in bold, the advertised marking indicates no one came to the post office to pick this letter up so it was publicly advertised, usually in the local paper; after this the letter was still not claimed, so the post office marked it as such; cover is backstamped with "Dover, N.H.", Very Fine to Extremely Fine.
