Lot 979		Ryukyus, Validation Stamp, 1971, 4¢ Iriomote, unissued, imprint single, o.g., never hinged, Very Fine, only a handful of collectors own a block or a pair. Scott $250. Estimate $120 - 180 This stamp did fiscal duty by providing the frugal Okinawan Administration with a validating device for their currency conversion certificates. Though it never saw use as the commemorative Iriomote Park stamp for which it was originally designed, it eventually fulfilled the function of being the necessary stamp to validate these money changing certificates. It has sometimes been referred to as an "essay" but might more appropriately be called an unissued stamp which eventually performed a fiscal function. View details and enlarged photo	Realized $240
