Great Britain, 1840-1900, Queen Victoria issues, an extensive mint and used collection including many high value rarities. Mainly used, over 95% complete for the period (no officials), in mounts on Scott pages. Better items include:
1862, 3d pale carmine rose, unused, part o.g. (Sc. 37, $2900; S.G. 77, £2700);
1867, 2s dull blue, unused without gum (Sc. 55, $5250; S.G. 118, £4500);
1876, 4d vermilion, unused o.g., creased (Sc. 69, $3500; S.G. 152, £3000);
1876, 4d gray brown, part o.g., repaired (Sc. 71, $3250; S.G. 154, £2800);
1878, 10s Maltese Cross watermark, used, small tear (Sc. 74, $3750; S.G. 128, £3000);
1878, £1 brown lilac, Maltese Cross watermark, used, creased (Sc. 75, $5250; S.G. 129, £3750).
In addition there are many other items in the $400 and up range.
Centering and condition are typical of the period, ranging from V.G. to Fine, a few Very Fine, some with small faults. Fully imaged on the web. Scott $60,000.

Lot 302

Great Britain, 1853-1901, a selection of Queen Victoria issues used on 13 foreign mail covers. Embossed issues include 1847 1s pale green (cut to shape) on an 1854 cover to India (£1900), and 1854 6d mauve (cut close or just in) on an 1855 Ship Letter to Sydney, Australia. Surface printed issues include 9 covers to the U.S.A. with 3d, 6d and 1s stamps, used 1861-1874 (£3560), the best being an 1870 cover to New York with a 3d pair (£750) and another 1870 cover with a single 3d (£500). There are also 2 later covers of less value (1890-1901). Condition is V.G. for the embossed issue covers and averages Fine for the surface printed. A nice lot for the postal history enthusiast. SG £7,300+ ($9,380).
