1863, 2¢ Jackson, black, used on a lovely embossed Valentine cover (Scott 73), a Fine example tied by lightly struck Syracuse N.Y. postmark, with the 2¢ paying the local drop rate. The cover is unusually nice, with a magnificent fold-out multicolor back, Very Fine.

1870, cover to India, franked with 10¢ Jefferson, H. grill (two) + 24¢ Scott without grill, N.B.N.C. printings (Scott 139, 153), used to make the 22¢ British Mail double rate to India via Southampton. Cork cancels tie the stamps, transit cancels include red Boston and red London PAIDs, with SEA POST and Ahmednuggar backstamps. The two 10¢ stamps are different shades (the left 10¢ has a tear at bottom and was lifted and replaced). Postmarks are clear and distinct although the cover is slightly toned. Overall quite attractive and very scarce, Fine to Very Fine, a lovely item from the Bissell correspondence, with 2001 P.F. certificate. Scott $3,100 ++.

1873, 3¢ Washington and 6¢ Lincoln, C.B.N.C. printing, on a lovely embossed Valentine cover to France (Scott 158, 159), tied by New York Foreign Mail cancels, this is the 9¢ rate via French Mail, valid only Aug. 1874 to Jan. 1876. Backstamps include New York (in red) and several French. Detailed original letter in French accompanies. The 6¢ with a corner nick at top right, overall a Fine to Very Fine cover.
