Lot 768

1851-1857, group of 3¢ covers (Scott 10//11), 37 different, most with neat c.d.s.'s (a few pen canceled or with grids), many different destinations, a couple college covers, an add cover, quite a variety. Most are F.-V.F. but some have cover damage. All imaged on the website - have a look. A nice lot for the 3¢ 1851 specialist or general cover dealer.

Early 1900's, extensive leather post card collection, comprising of 205 unique cards many quite colorful, we note that about half are postally used and half are mint. Congress provided by the Act of May 19, 1898 for the transmission by mail at postage rate of one cent a piece, under such regulations as the Postmaster General may prescribe, of written messages on private mailing cards". The once cent rate continued until 1917. Leather post cards during this period became a popular form of private mailing card that qualified for the one cent rate. It is interesting that many of the postmarks are 1907 on these cards. A neat collection for the post card connoisseur - a few imaged on the website to give an idea of what is in the lot!

1908-40's, Texas post cards, group of about 50, nearly all with multicolor views on the reverse, about half used half unused. The value is clearly in the nostalgic views of Texas in the early 20th century. A great lot for the picture postcard collector or the specialist in Texas postal history.

1929-1981, Presidential Inauguration and First Ladies covers, over 100 covers in two albums including the 31st to the 40th President of the United States (some duplication) in one album - approximately 88 covers and the second album is a lovely book by the Postal Commemorative Society featuring colorful cachets of all of the First Ladies through Rosalynn Carter (40 covers) beautifully presented with interesting facts about each; just a few imaged on the website to give you a flavor.

1980's, colorful group of Transportation First Day Covers, neatly housed in 4 Scott albums commemorating virtually all of the various modes of transportation including horse and buggy, covered wagon, handcar, locomotive, canoes, bicycle, etc you name it! All with gorgeous cachets and matching stamps on most; a few imaged on the website to give a flavor of the lot which totals 347 covers and includes some minor duplication. Scott $400 approx.
