Lot 1157 |
Indonesia: Republic of the South Moluccas, small topical collection, mostly mint, Fine to Very Fine. Estimate $75 - 100 The "Republic of the South Moluccas" was a short lived entity which the main Indonesian government quickly suppressed in the 1950's. An American dealer, Henry Stolow, had spurious "local" issues printed in Vienna afterward for this by-then imaginary republic. Lovely topical appeal but they never did postal duty. An interesting sort of Cinderella issue. Philatelists may remember the roughly similar issues of Katanga in the 1960's . View details and enlarged photo | Realized $60 |
