[Hotel] Ebbitt House, Army & Navy, Washington, D.C., lovely illustration on a cover franked with 2¢ (279B) tied by a Collection & Distribution Wagon cancel; the "White Wagon" mail program was set in motion on October 1, 1896 and its purposed was to keep the mail moving in New York city and Washington D.C. as both cities were exploding with new development to accommodate the ever expanding influx of people to these cities; the wagons were designed to pick u and deliver mail as they moved the streets; however, due to several reasons the service ended in 1900 just fours years later; this is a lovely example of mail which was processed on a white wagon! tears on the left side not affecting the cancels, Fine to Very Fine.
