1847, 5¢ red brown (Scott 1), exquisite example of this deeply blued paper with four lavish margins surround a stamp with vibrant brown color which tends towards the chocolate shade, detailed impression, tied to an immaculate 1851 folded letter by red grid cancel with matching "PAID" handstamp at left and "Portsmouth. NH/Jun 4" c.d.s at far left to Boston, Extremely Fine a most eye-catching cover.

1847, 5¢ red brown (Scott 1), an extraordinarily handsome vertical pair with large margins all around, rich color and razor sharp impression, tied exclusively to an 1849 folded letter to Webster, Mass. by triply struck "Philada. Pa/Apr 23/10" integral rate c.d.s. in blue, an additional complete strike and two partial strikes appear at right also in blue, Extremely Fine, vertical pairs on the Five Cent 1847 are quite scare on cover.

1847, 5¢ red brown (Scott 1), a lovely single possessing four uniform margins, rich color, sharp impression and deeply blued paper, with crisscrossed strikes of red "PAID" handstamp cancel, used on 1848 light blue folded letter originating in Chester Village, Mass, neatly struck red "Boston & Albany R.R. Sep 21" route agents's c.d.s. at top center (Remele #B8-b), to Chester Factories Mass., Extremely Fine and choice a beautiful railroad cover.

1847, 5¢ red brown (Scott 1), just clear at bottom to huge margins and on lovely blued paper, tied to a light blue 1849 folded letter to Coburg, Canada by red grid cancel, matching "Rochester, N.Y./5/Jan 4" c.d.s. at right, with red "Queenston/U.C." cross-border handstamp toward bottom, the U.S. portion of the postage is marked "Paid" in manuscript at bottom left while the postage due in Canada is rated at "9"d at top right which reflects the Canadian 101-200 mile rate, with the appropriate arrival backstamp also in red, Extremely Fine.

1847, 5¢ red brown (Scott 1), a gorgeous example showing part of the adjoining stamp at left, other margins large, tied by a doubly struck large red "10" in circle handstamp cancels on 1849 folded entire, matching "New-York/Mar 25" c.d.s. to left, interesting very lightly struck oval cover card/advertising handstamp, also in red, which reads "From the D.D. Howard Saving Bank", to Baltimore, Extremely Fine, ex-Hart.

Feb 22" c.d.s., no other cancels, a neat 1850 ms. docketing, Extremely Fine, this and the previous cover bearing the popular and appealing Troy, N.Y. markings would be perfect for an exhibition page.

1847, 5¢ red brown (Scott 1), four large margins all around, tied on 1849 blue folded entire by neatly struck red numeral "5" in circle handstamp cancel, from Troy, N.Y. to New York via the Hudson River Steamboat but lacking the usual New York "Steamboat" handstamp, another unusual aspect of this cover is the use of the rate handstamp to cancel the stamp, Extremely Fine, ex-Garrett, Grunin.

1847, 5¢ red brown (Scott 1), huge margins including a tiny bit of the stamp at top right to clear at bottom left, outstanding color and impression, tied by two striped of unusual bold red 6-bar rectangular grid cancels on 1848 folded letter from Falls Village, Conn. to New York, with matching red "Housatonic Railroad/5" integral route agent handstamp marking at right (Remele #H4-e); cover has been cleaned and pressed, stamp removed and inaccurately replaced with position of the tying postmark at bottom painted in according to accompanying certificate, Fine to Very Fine, ex-Matthies, Kapiloff and Caspary, with photocopy of 1999 P.F. certificate.

1847, 10¢ black (Scott 2), pos. 68L1, a beautiful example with a crease at top left ending in a tiny tear at top center, with detailed impression and strong color, the margins show some of the adjoining stamp at bottom while the other side are large to huge, tied to immaculate blue folded entire by lovely red grid cancel, perfectly struck "STEAM BOAT" handstamp and red "New-York/Dec 24" c.d.s. to left establish the fact that this doubly rated cover originated from a port on the East Coast and traveled by a coastal steamer via New York to its Philadelphia destination, Extremely Fine despite a few faults still a gorgeous cover, ex-Gibson, signed Stanley B. Ashbrook, with 1999 P.F. certificate.

1847, 10¢ black (Scott 2), large to very large margins, tied by black grid cancel to 1851 folded entire, matching "Tallahassee Flor/Jan 23" c.d.s. at left to New York; small tear to entire at bottom and minor age spotting, still a rare Florida usage, Very Fine to Extremely Fine, only seven covers having been recorded from this town, ex - Gibson, Sampson, with 1989 P.F. certificate.
